On the 10th and 11th of December the Junior and Senior Rooms performed their Nativity plays for their parents and families. The Junior Room performed “Whoops-A-Daisy Angel” and the Senior Room performed “The Nativity” Well done to all involved, they were super. What great talent they all have!!
On Tuesday 3rd December members of the Fire Fighters in Portumna came to give the senior room a talk on how to keep your home safe. It was very informative and we took home some really practical advice to improve safety in the home.
The school took part in the Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box Appeal again this year. Children brought in gift wrapped shoe boxes filled with toys, clothing, sweets, etc. to help children across the world that are not as fortunate as us.
Congratulations to Robyn Callanan and Adam Burke for winning prizes for writing a poem on the theme “Going Green.”
Congratulations to Katie Dolphin, Harry Madden, Miya Callanan, Patrick Madden, Allie Callanan, Tara Madden, Caoimhe Dermody, Samuel Madden, Abbie Cox, Daragh McLaughlin and Aisling Madden on not missing a day at school this year. They all got a trophy for their great achievement.
Our talents were on show today and you should be so proud of your children. They are amazing. We were so entertained. We finished off with a disco. A fabulous way to end the year.
We held our Sports Day on the 18th June. There were many fun novelty races. The children had ice cream to cool them down at lunchtime. They all got a gold medal for their participation. Everyone enjoyed the day.
The 3rd to 6th class children of Gortanumera NS under the guidance of Ms Ryan, undertook the Blue Star Programme to further their understanding of the EU from its historical, geographical, cultural and its institutional role. The sixth class children competed in the school round of Spelling Bee. They were seated at the top of the room and were asked questions of various difficulty. The 5th and 6th class went to Shiven Rovers FC for a soccer blitz. Despite the heavy rain and bad playing conditions they did really well. We are very proud of them representing the school. A huge thank you to Ms Watson for all her training sessions and organising and managing them on the day.
