March 15th was Proclamation Day. All schools across Ireland raised our National Flag at 12 noon. In Gortanumera, the Junior Room presented the school with their flags. The Senior Room read out the Proclamation of 1916 and Our Proclamation for the Ireland today. Some pupils read “The Wayfarer” by Padraig Pearse which was written by him on the eve of his execution. The Senior Room sang “Grace” in memory of Joseph Plunkett. Josh and Shaunagh raised the National Flag at 12 noon followed by a minutes silence to remember those who died in The 1916 Rising. We then stood and sang Amhrán na bhfiann. The day concluded with a 1916 Table Quiz in the Senior Room.
