Cell Explorers came to our school on Monday 17th October. They were biochemistry students from NUIG. The fantastic DNA session lasted an hour. The children did two tasks. Firstly, they did a DNA preparation from a banana. At the end of the experiment the children had collected DNA with loop and transferred to a small tube. Secondly, the students built DNA Model Building. They built the base pairs – A with T and C with G. They then built the backbone. This was followed by stacking the base pairs on the stand first and they were positioned so all holes were aligned. They finally attached the back bone. The children really enjoyed their hands on Science morning.
